Salvino Marsura (Treviso, 1938- 2020) Composition - abstract painting with iron elements. Painting - composition made with mixed techniques: painting, sculpture, “Ready-made rectified” applications, collage and resins. Signed with a paper tag included in the work at the bottom right.

Due to the experimental technique of the work there are some imperfections, highlighted in the photos.

Starting from a canvas, from painting it, the artist applies the resin and sinks the objects in various materials as in the primordial sea of creation: paper, scrap iron, grains of pigments, even a small stamp.
The whole takes on the appearance of an exploded "astronomical" landscape: a universe that is created, an energy emanating from the stars. The range, predominantly in warm red tones, is suitable for the blacksmith's work: fire, heat, transformation.

Undoubtedly the proximity of the city of Venice, with a contribution of ideas from the Venice Biennales, cannot fail to have influenced Marsura. In particular we can suggest similarities with some works by Edmondo BACCI (beloved by Peggy Guggenheim) and Fontana (for the matter and concepts of overturned space).

Salvino Marsura possessed the skilled manual skills of a blacksmith, the visionary creative and conceptual exuberance of an artist who confronted himself with the avant-gardes of the 20th century.

His art gallery in the city of Treviso was famous, one of the invitations to which is included in the inside our composition. A curious detail is the use of a classic canvas, stretched on the wooden frame, but painted on the reverse side, creating a spatial game, reversing the space on the back of the canvas. While on the smooth side small planks of rough wood are applied which gives a material effect, in line with "Arte Povera" creations. In pencil we find the title (Homage to Buzzati) and “Salvino Marsura Painting” written.

The painting, or rather, a multi-material composition comes directly from the artist's studio, which remained there until his death. Salvino Marsura's paintings are particularly rare while his architectural furnishings, tables and chandeliers with metal bases worked as real sculptures in Brutalist style are already highly appreciated on the market.

At this point he deserves to say something more about who SALVINO MARSURA was. Born in Treviso in 1938, Marsura began to deal with the practice and languages of sculpture and painting from a very young age in the second half of the 1950s. In particular, he was a pupil of the "iron poet" Toni Benetton, working for years in his forge, the sculptor Sergio Storel and the master Mario De Tuoni.

A master of iron and metals, active in Treviso for more than 60 years. He began as a student of Toni Benetton. In 1972 he was awarded, in addition to numerous other prizes, the European "Griffone d'Oro" prize, while in 1973, the Accademia Tiberina awarded him, for the validity of his artistic form, the "Gold Medal of 'industriousness-aristocracy of work' of the Union of the Golden Legion. Marsura is well known in the Treviso area also for his activity as a gallery owner based in the city in Piazza San Leonardo and for the gift to his city of a work, entitled "Skyscrapers of the year 7000", which is still present in the center today of one of the flowerbeds in Piazzetta Trentin in Treviso.
