Circle of Master of Prodigal son.
Painting made by a follower of Jan Mandyn, who's only secured and documented altarpiece from 1552 is in the church of Saint Eustace in Zichem, near Diest, in Belgium.
There are not much doubt that the pictures by the Master of the Prodigal son should be placed within the studio practice of Jan Mandyn.
Mandyn was the teacher of Hansje van den Elburg and Pieter Aertsen worked in his studio. The two triptychs by Aertsen in the church in
Zoutleeuw are stylistically very close. However, this painting is unrelated to Aertsen, but made by someone who was aware of Mandyn's work.
