Fortress at the foot of the Atlas Mountains with Berbers.
Maroc.
Orientalist painting.
Technique: oil on canvas.
Original canvas and wooden frame, from the 19th century, probably from a French fine arts shop (it has a particular construction on the back of the canvas with small diagonal reinforcing wooden boards).
On the back of the canvas there is the number 10 printed, which corresponds to the size of the prepared canvas.
Nineteenth century.
Morocco has been, since forever, a source for inspiration to artists, especially those who were untiringly searching for exotic aspirations.
Orientalist painting.
French school.
Early 20th century frame in carved wood.
Small restorations.
From Delacroix to Matisse, painters were attracted by the epic monumentality of the landscapes, by the exotic and colorful traditional clothing and costumes, by the architecture frozen in time, putting before the eyes of travelers a modern Middle Ages, which remained intact: the stones, the materials , but also the sense of freedom and impressive contrast between freedom and absolutism, the contrasts between luxury and the poetry of poverty. In the painting proposed by us all these elements are present: the romantic atmosphere of the Berber knight, his horse, the immensity of nature and mountains, and a citadel with an ancient, medieval flavour, everything is expressed with fluid, fast brushstrokes, immediate.
A painting of great poetry that will give a unique atmosphere to the environment that will host it.
