Rare Alabaster And Micromosaic Bust. Art Nouveau. Late XIX century.
Rare Alabaster And Micromosaic Bust. Art Nouveau. Late XIX century.
Bust of a young girl from the Art Nouveau period, with rare craftsmanship in alabaster and micromosaic.
Florence, circa 1900.
Size: H cm 28, L cm 14
A bust of a lovely girl with two varieties of stone, alabaster and marble, featuring a nearly unknown technique of micromosaic inserts with flowers.
The micromosaic is embedded within the alabaster, both on the girl's dress, creating a decoration on the neckline, and also on a tiara adorning her hair, with patterns of white flowers against a blue background.
During a search, only one bust with similar craftsmanship was found, signed by a Florentine sculptor.
This confirms that the mosaic was created by a Florentine workshop, making it even rarer than similar mosaic objects created in Venice or Rome.
The conservation state is good, with no breaks, only small signs of wear, and an appropriate patina for the time period of the object.
The bust is supported by a darker stone base, Bordeaux in color with white accents.
