This painting depicts a highly realistic and detailed courtyard scene. At the center of the composition is a brown horse, tethered with a rope to a railing in front of a door. The horse appears to be interacting with a cheerful dachshund, which is standing on its hind legs and pressing its nose close to the horse. The horse maintains a calm and elegant demeanor. Another dachshund is attempting to enter a house, pushing the door with its paw.

The background features a building partially covered with climbing plants, possibly grapes, and trees, creating a bucolic and intimate atmosphere. The painting showcases high quality in the depiction of the animals' fur, highlighting its gloss and softness.
