Portrait of Maria Mancini.
Follower of Jacob Ferdinand Voet (b. 1639, Antwerpen, d. ca. 1700, Paris)
Maria Mancini (1639-1715) was the Duchess of Bouillon. She was the niece of Cardinal Mazarin. She married Maurice Godefroy of the Tour d'Auvergne, Duke of Bouillon in 1662.
The painting dates from the 18th century.
There are restorations: the original canvas is relined, and there are also some pictorial restorations.
Fortunately, the best preserved part of the paint is the face and hairstyle. A most restored part is the left outer sleeve. Some pictorial restorations on the chest.
Paintings like these were very fashionable between the Roman aristocracy, and whole rooms or ambiance, covered with portraits of "beautiful romaine" can still be seen in the villas of Rome, for example in Ariccia.
Gilt and painted frame from 20th century.
