Lazio landscape with a waterfall and the ruins of a tower.
Mid 18th century.
Attrib. to Alessio me Marchis (?)
Technique: oil on canvas.
Medium-small size painting.
Landscapes of pre-Romantic atmospheres, with representation of an idealized view of the Roman countryside.
A similar tower with a waterfall and river can be seen in a painting by the Roman painter Locatelli, therefore it is probable that a really existing Roman or medieval tower - waterfall is taken as inspiration.
The peculiarity of this painting is in the light laugh and in the speed and lightness of the brushstrokes, typical of the eighteenth century taste.
Small figures of men: the traveler with the dog in the foreground, a fisherman and two figures at rest, blend into the landscape.
The painting is in good condition, but with some irregularities on the canvas, professionally restored but slightly visible.
20th century wood frame.
