Holy Family.
Lombard school.
About 1600
Ancient painting, from the late Renaissance, from the Lombard school.
Late 16th - early 17th century.
Size 72cm x 58,5 cm
To be restored.
In a gilded wooden frame from the early 19th century. Madonna looks down on two children playing affectionately: Jesus and little John the Baptist. Behind the Madonna - St. Joseph, represented with a broad forehead of a robust man, with a human and at the same time very earthly expression. In front of him - grapes on a tray, symbol of the blood of Christ, allusion to the sacred scriptures.
In the lower corner - a lamb, "Agnus Dei", which presents a curiosity: it seems to have an almost human face, it could be a secret portrait of the author of the painting.
Painting is in medium condition, to be restored, there are signs of old restorations: some repainting and abrasions, compatible with the age of the painting.
The particular physiognomy of the Madonna suggests belonging to the Lombard school and in addition there is a typical chiaroscuro, close to nuanced, often used by painters from the Lombard area.
