Ritual object. New Guinea.
Ritual stone blade.
Asmat tribe or Dani
A ritual object consisting of a skillfully worked volcano stone, wrapped in a wooven embellishments.
Decorated with Cassowary bird feathers, typical of Australia and the Oceanic region.
Object created to be used, not for Europeans.
With clear signs of wear and use.
Between the wooven raffia and the stone, there is a layer of organic matter, here used to prevent the stone from slipping out of its casing.
A small but fascinating magic object.
The tufts of feathers probably mark the "conquests" of the warrior - owner of this object (for Asmat people it had the meaning of hunted heads of enemies)
