Allegory of Winter.
Venetian sculptor.
73 cm high
62 cm large
Entourage by O. and A. Marinali ( Bassano del Grappa, 1654- 1702, Vicenza).
Late 17th century.
Baroque style.
The sculpture represents a mature man with his head covered by a cloak, with a long beard that moves in the wind, alluding to cold and bad weather.
The whole is a typical composition of Venetian sculpture.
It is almost certainly one of the four seasons.
The bust is a white Carrara marble.
The reduced depth of the bust and the abrasion of the marble surface confirm its position inside a niche on the partially protected façade.
The sculpture comes from a villa in the Veneto region.
Sculpture is in good condition. It can be combined with another bust, from the same provenance, of a young man or satyr, published separately.
