Albert Cibrario.
The painter's studio.
Circa 1920.
Oil paint on thick cardboard. Good state of conservation with some small pictorial retouches.
It depicts an interior with plaster models, draperies, jugs and basins for creating still lifes, easels, paints and other furnishings of an artist's studio.
The author, Alberto Cibrario was an Italian doctor and painter.
Born in Turin in 1877, he belongs to an ancient Piedmontese family of Ussaglio. Luigi Cibrario, the famous historian, statesman and man of letters was his grandfather.
He graduated, also to comply with the wishes of his family, in medicine and surgery and for a few years he practiced the profession of surgeon, which he flanked with a fertile activity as a painter.
However, his true aspiration was directed towards art.
Only very late was he able to devote himself entirely to it, but through a severe discipline, he did his own study without following academic courses, supported by the advice of fellow artists, including Giacomo Grosso, Leonardo Bistolfi, Felice Carena, Carlo Pollini. He began to exhibit in 1907.
He has participated in the major exhibitions in Turin, in regional and national exhibitions. He has received various awards.
During the First World War he was a medical lieutenant colonel. He was awarded the war merit cross and the bronze medal of merit of the Italian Red Cross.
