19th century
Drawings on lightly colored paper.
It comes from the collection of the Turinese painter Luigi Giglielmino, which mainly contains the works of his teacher Enrico Reffo.
In good condition.
The drawing depicts a mature man posing for a study of character for bigger composition. (Enrico Reffo and his studio have painted many religious frescoes in churches of Piedimont.)
The man has raised eyes and short hair.
It is probably a preparatory study of the figure of a young neophyte listening to a sermon.
This drawing comes from the inheritance which mainly contained sketches and other works by the religious painter of Turin Luigi Reffo.
Often the painter, while representing figures of saints, apostles and other religious images, started from the anatomical study, from the study of position in which he then represented the dressed figures.
Coming from the bequest of the Turin artist Luigi Guglielmino, pupil of Enrico Reffo.
The collection of sketches and preparatory drawings mainly included works by his professor, Enrico Reffo (Turin, 1831-1917), one of the major representatives of Italian religious painting of the second half of the 19th century.
High quality drawing, showing the continuity of the Italian and French academic drawing school, which continued to live in the studio of the painter Reffo in Turin.
